Hi HS peeps,

I'm up late irresponsibly looking to spend some money on Amazon and I'm seeking your advice about chromatic harmonicas as I am finally ready to break into it. What keydo yourecommend starting out with? What keydo you find most versatile for Blues? Other styles? What key(s) do you have? Which do like best? Any other tips about getting into chromatic playing? Thanks for your time.

I have a Hohner Chromonica 12 hole in C and I play it in D or Eb. It works well just need to clean the plastic wind savers sometimes cause they can stick. I have a CX 12 in Bb and I love this thing as it is shaped more ergonomically and seems louder. I play it in C. Just for fun I bought the big Super 16 hole Hohner and I am getting used it now. I love the extra low octave it has. As you already figured out, I only play in 3rd position except when playing Blues in the Dark. C harp with button in = 10th position Eb. But I am a diatonic player that messes with the big guys and really would like to get better playing them.

Hope this helps

If you play Blues, try a solo tuned Marine Band 364. They have the same layout as a chromatic harmonica and are fun to play. They also tend to be louder and you can still bend some of the notes.

The best I tried are Hohner chromonica deluxe and CX12. I still don't try newer seydels chromos.

I went ahead and ordered a CX-12 in C. Should be here in another day or two. I'm pretty excited!
