Fender Bassman 59 RI phantom sound issue

Back to the Gear Room

hey guys, I was wondering whether anyone could help me with this: I bought a Fender Bassman 59RI and I have been experiencing a kind of a ghost note,a phantom sound/feedbacklike chorus which comes out of the amp with 3rd octave Bb and higher tones (for example 9blow on Eb harp or 10 bend whole step on C). as if the tone was doubled.
It is a pretty unpleasant sound and I have no idea why it happens. I use Electrovoice RE10 through shure impedance transformer and Astatic mic, it happens with both although astatic tones it down a bit. i suspect that it happens with the high impedance signal, but I am not sure why. Has anyone had a similar experience? could it be any of the tubes? I changed the preamp tubes but the problem remains. Do the Jesnen speaker have a tonal range? I would appreciate any ideas that would help me to fix it. thanks a lot

I had the same issue with small solid state amps and POD XT it looks like solid state power amp distortion.

But it's very strange issue for tube amp!
