Duane is correct. YouTube is such a good resource some people have learned how to play just from the videos there! Search it for "Beginning harmonica". Especially videos from KudzuRunner. (I really get a kick out of his stuff)

For books you can't go wrong with either The Complete Idiot's Guide To Playing The Harmonica or Harmonica For Dummies. The author of "dummies" actually hangs out here and is more than willing to help, as are many other professional and experienced players. Take advantage of the rich resources you'll find in these forums!

After you get the hang of it, get some backing tracks or download The Amazing Slowdowner for practicing with. Once your confidence is up, invite a friend or two to come over (or go there). There ain't nothing that can build skill like playing with other people. There's a dynamic in it that you can't get from recordings!

What a blast you're going to have!

Welcome,

Don

Youtube has some good stuff but be careful because there is alot of bad info on there also. The first important thing you need to learn is a correct emboucher to play. Check out these vids first.

Remember that very small movement make a big change on the harp when you are playing.

10 hole standard diatonic harmonica in the key of "C" is best for instructions and lessons . It is easier for beginners to start with a basic 10 hole harmonica in the key of "C". Diatonic harmonicas come in twelve keys G, Ab, A, Bb, B, C, Db, D, Eb, E, F, F#. The "G" harmonicas are very low and the "F" and "F#" harmonicas are very high pitch and the "C" is in the middle. The keys in the "C" harmonicas are common and easy.
