Ok, I have not verified this myself but have heard from people who would know, that Chris has passed away a few hours ago just a mere 20 hours or so after one of his last posts.

If it is true may he rest in peace. If it is a rumor, that is very low class...

This is terribly sad news. I didn't know Chris well but he was always so giving of his time and expertise. I remember when I was first learning how to gap reeds and he offered his time on Skype to counsel me for free. Great guy and terrific player, he'll be missed for sure.

THIS IS A POST FROM

BRENDAN POWER ON MBH <>

Here is the message I received from George Brooks. He's not the kind to joke about this stuff:

"It is with immense sadness that I pass on the news that Chris Michalek
died on Thursday. I do not have details. I knew he had been sick
with what he assumed was a bad cold, but he was beginning to feel
better when we spoke a few days ago. His wife Laurie called me early
Friday morning with the news.

Chris's talent was huge, both as a player and as a teacher. There was
and is no one like him. My condolences go out to Laurie and the rest
of his family as well as his many friends."

This is very sad news. The man lit such a strong light on the possibilities of the diatonic harmonica. Such a shameI never saw him live. My condolences to his family.
