Confused By The Minor Keys

Back to the General Discussion Room

I have been playing around on harmonica for about 20 yrs. and the 4 or 5 songs that I played I play very well. I have taken it to the next level and formed a band. We have been practicing for several months and are just about ready to play out. I have read several articles about minor keys and am confused. My musical knowledge is limited. When do I need to use a harmonica tuned in a minor key and can you use the minor to play major or vise versa. Also on a song like say Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" would a harp in Em sound better. I have read that you have more room playing in a minor key, so I guess I just need to be schooled a little. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
