itunes has local stores for each country. Have you changed to your local store? Same with Amazon I believe. It's to do with local differences in music licensing.

http://www.myspace.com
I have some music there.

Aha... done a little snooping...

It looks like Apple doesn't have distribution rights setup in Israel, so the Apple store has limited music and won't have better choice until those local agreements are signed.

To use another countries store, you must demonstrate residency. i.e. have a bank account with billing address in that country.

I guess Amazon is in the same boat as Apple.

Bad news I'm afraid. Ripping CDs ordered abroad seems to be your best option for now.

I found this article, but bear in mind it is from a UK site so I have no idea whether you'll come across the same issues. Since the problem seems to be preserving the artists/distributors copyright, then I think you'll encounter this issue a lot. These are all legitimate legal download sites:

Of course there are less legit sites - usually based in Russia and the far East - I'll let you make that choice. Be warned many of these sites can hit you with 'Drive By' Trojans and 'browser hijackers'.

Finally as Robert points out, there's lots of free stuff from independent artists. Myspace is as good a place as any to start.

Good luck!
