Meet the Apprentice

Back to the General Discussion Room

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to HarmonicaSpace (apparently I've been in a cave the last few months) so I figured I should start out with an introduction. I'm from Cape Town, South Africa, and have been playing for about two years. I recently moved to the UK where I meet harp champion Wilf Taylor, who runs the website www.harpsurgery.com.

I now run a guest blog on that site: The Apprenticeship Series, about the trials and triumphs of moving from beginner to intermediate to (one day, maybe) advanced or master player. You can see my two most recent posts here, Interview with Joe Filisko and Old-school harmonica or new school?.

When I'm not reading about, writing about, thinking about or actually playing harp, I study social anthropology at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London.

Well, it was nice meeting ya.

-Elwood

Old-school harmonica or new school?

Welcome, Elwood. Cool that you are motivated to learn and to progress. It sounds like you are well on your way. I'm a psychiatrist in Hawaii, which is quite multicultural, so I do a bit of applied social anthropology!
