The element has a metal ring covering the holes but allowing the bobbintobe seen. I'm assuming its for squelch. Should this be removed before installing the element?Does this squelch ring alter the tone? How do I remove it?

Thanks Joe, It is the metal cover on the front of the diaphram. 1st mic build for me.
